Meet Our Lab Members’ Furry Friends!

Romeo

Human: Katelyn Borba

Romeo is a 5 year old pit-mix. He is extremely friendly and energetic, but loves to sleep in on the weekends. His favorite food is carrots, and he loves having sleepovers at his grandmothers house so that she can spoil him with other yummy treats. Romeo is not a cuddler per say, but he is always willing to show a little extra love when his mom and dad are sick or upset. Katelyn also maintains the human named Julian also pictured.

George

Human: LG Rollins

George was born on Cleveland Street in Johnston and found his moms, LG and Katie, through a local cat rescue. He is only a few months old, but he has already shown great promise as a young scholar. He has a broad range of interests including feminist literature, entomology, and otter-ology. He shares LG's love of science and frequently assists with manuscript preparation when he isn't conducting experiments with water or house plants. However, given his near-obsession with pens and computer keyboards, we think he will take after his other mom, Katie, and become a writer.

Chessy

Human: Natasha Sokol

Chessy is a border collie/German shepherd/whippet mix (in other words, a small-to-medium short-haired black dog). What she lacks in size and pedigree, she makes up for in intensity and expressiveness. Though she has been described by some as "the weirdest dog I've ever met," Chessy actually enjoys many normal canine pursuits, including chasing squirrels, chewing sticks, digging holes, and passing judgment on others. By day, Chessy vigilantly watches neighborhood goings on, and by night she intently watches TV. Chessy's dream life involves a scenario where humans let her in and out of the house several times an hour all day long. In the real world, she's happy with a nice long hike in the woods, walk on the beach, or ball-chasing session. She likes to end the day with a good snuggle that includes clear verbal validation that she is the most special being in the world. She is doing a medium job of adjusting to her new human family member.

Mali

Human: Melissa Feulner

Mali is a mix of breeds, who traveled all the way from West Monroe, Louisiana in December 2011 to her forever home. Her favorite activities include chewing on her many toys (as well as some household items accidentally left around), digging in dirt when she thinks no one is watching, stealing shoes when she wants her humans’ attention, swimming in Long Island Sound during the summer, and playing in snow during the winter. She also enjoys a nice mid-day nap and as many belly rubs as she can get.

Rosa

Human: Jessica Powers

Rosa is a 2-year-old soft-coated wheaten terrier, born and raised in central New York. Her favorite activities include eating ice cubes, staring at the neighbors, and playing tug of war. She has impressed her humans on multiple occasions with her almost 4-foot vertical (she’s only 30 lbs), but she also loves a good nap on the couch. Rosa’s favorite food is cheese, and she will make direct eye contact the entire time you make a sandwich. She loves going in the car, and she has happily accompanied her family on multiple 12-hour road trips.

Maezel

Human: Czenil Santander

Maezel is a yellow labrador born and raised as a Massachusetts girl. Always known as the "welcoming party" to anyone she meets, Maezel's favorite activities include getting hugged, sleeping until dinner, and begging for apple slices. On the other hand, Maezel does not do well with stuffed animal toys, carrots, putting on jackets, or wearing dog costumes-- she prefers bandanas. She enjoys going out with her family and is always looking for a good time!

Winston

Human: Aaliyah Taylor

Winston, the "Five Pound Wonder," is a Yorkie-poodle mix from Chicago. He loves chewing his lamb chop, playing tug, and wearing tiny clothes. Although he was a stray, it does not show as he's often found lounging on any and every soft surface, begging for treats, or demanding belly rubs. When Winston isn't waiting for his mom to come home, he spends his time working toward his dual pedigree in Rabbit Chasing and Puzzle Solving at Brown University.
