Our Predoctoral Resident, Nancy Jao, did a great job presenting at the International Society for Developmental Psychobiology (ISDP) Symposium on substance use in pregnancy.
Fall Fun!
It’s apple picking season in New England! For our “fall social” event, our team ventured over to Pippin Orchard in Cranston, RI. Hannah Dalglish came prepared in her apple picking sweater and the rest of us gathered some along the way.
From RA to SRA… congratulations, Sam!
We are thrilled to announce that Samantha Goldman has been promoted to a Senior Research Assistant position in the lab.
COBRE Hackathon Success!
Congratulations to our very own Hannah Dalglish for winning 1st place at the COBRE on Opioids and Overdose Hackathon over the weekend! Hannah’s team prioritized harm reduction and prevention with a detailed, community-oriented plan. Click here to check out ABC6’s report on the event.
Cohort 2 Completion!
Thanks to Hannah Dalglish and our amazing team, we enrolled the last participant of the 2nd cohort of our hookah in pregnancy study! There are still lots of follow-ups to do, but we are excited to soon begin looking at the data with Lori Scott-Sheldon, PhD.
Staff Celebrations
It was the perfect day for an outdoor staff meeting! Not only did we enjoy the weather and view from the new Providence Pedestrian Bridge, but we also got to celebrate our very own Geidy Nolasco. Geidy earned her MBA in ONE YEAR while working full-time in our lab. She is a rockstar!
Hot off the Press!
Dr. Laura Stroud was excited for her first ever publication with her husband, Dr. Michael Klein of Brown Medicine, and Natasha Sokol, ScD. Featured in American Family Physicians, this publication provides questions and answers about e-cigarettes for family doctors. To read the article yourself, click here.
Nicotine & Tobacco Research Article
We are thrilled to share our article from Nicotine & Tobacco Research. We found very high rates of menthol cigarette use in pregnant smokers—particularly among racial/ethnic minority and low socioeconomic status smokers—and some evidence for associations with reduced smoking cessation in pregnancy. Consideration of pregnant smokers as a uniquely vulnerable population is warranted in evaluating regulation of menthol in cigarettes. Further research is needed regarding the impact of menthol on smoking persistence in pregnancy and on maternal and infant health outcomes. Click here for more info about the article.
Congratulations, Natasha!
Another set of congratulations are in order for our postdoc fellow, Natasha Sokol. Natasha was just notified that she was awarded a Loan Repayment Grant (LRP) from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
Our Newest Addition
We loved meeting our newest, and youngest, lab member at our team’s social event. Congratulations to Natasha on her new baby boy!
